coastline

you catch my eye

tart as key lime pie

a menacing trap

disguised

as an angel divine

& glaring sunshine

i don’t look away

when you’re making me blind

i’m a clementine

with your fingernails in my rind

i’d let you hurt me

just to call you mine

it’s okay he’s unkind

it’s love of course

so i’ll comply

when tells me to

i hand over my mind

he grabs it gently

and throws it off the side

i’m a floating butterfly

sweet as blush wine

a drive down the coastline

in the middle of July

a small floating cloud

in the middle of the sky

the salty sea foam

lapping at sand powder fine

i know when you lie

but don’t ask why

or leave your side

when you make my cry

i’ll take the sour for the sweet

i’ll be confined

as long as you’re nearby

i won’t decline

i’ll let it happen because

i can’t say goodbye

i’m given two choices

and told i can pick

one is a winding road

the other is a cliff

my brain has been washed

by your salty tricks

your waves inconsistent

with riptides too quick

but one day

a third option

is offered to me

i’ll use my wings to fly

right over your sea

untangling myself

from the clutches

of your vine

i’ll hear your call

& i’ll want to

but i won’t

reply
